Pueblos jóvenes, Lima on googlemaps - Villa María del Triúnfo

http://www.nationsonline.org/oneworld/map/google_map_Lima.htm

La Roca - somewhat confusingly, we had thought it was in Villa Maria del Triunfo, which you can see a close up of here. However, following a phone interview with local inhabitant in Dec 2011, I found that after much wrangling, it has just come under the jurisdiction of San Juan de Miraflores.

In any case, seeing as I went to the trouble of finding this map (!), here is Villa Maria del Triunfo, a nearby settlement, much of which is also informal and lacks basic sanitation and water connections at time of writing.

You can see it is north of Villa el Salvador (the first well known informal settlement/land invasion in Lima which became a recognised and well established pueblo after growing up under the reformist military Velasco regime (1968-75) (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Juan_Velasco_Alvarado) which redefined squatter settlements in the language of 'young towns'. Interestingly it is also only slightly east of San Juan de Miraflores, a well known middle class district in Lima, popular for shopping and other leisure activities. Most foreigners on visiting Lima will go here and to the centre of town without ever seeing a glimpse of the young towns which are really only a short ride away.

Villa Maria del Triunfo is a large area which does appear on the map but as you can see, there is no road infrastructure marked on the map in the central part of the area marked. This is because it is on one of the foothills (or as I like to call it anthills) and the building of settlements has gone around the hilltop. Having said this, there is little to no road infrastructure in inhabited areas. In this map pictured above, you can see the steps running through some of the settlements quite clearly.
